About Northwest Montessori

Northwest Montessori School has offered high quality education to the children of Seattle for more than 50 years. As the first Montessori School in Seattle, fully accredited and recognized by the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI), Northwest Montessori is proud to offer nurturing, non-competitive, multi-age classrooms with an emphasis on social, emotional, physical and intellectual development. Through our primary and elementary school classes, Northwest Montessori School has prepared thousands of children for lives of initiative and meaningful involvement in their community.

What People Are Saying About NWM

A kind, caring, welcoming teachers and community. The school is a bit small, but they make up for that by using community resources. I love true Montessori approach.. students learn independence, thoughtfulness, creative thinking and community awareness in a way no traditional school can offer. I don’t worry about my daughter not having to memorize answers for tests, because here she develops the skills necessary to find the information she needs. A Montessori student is never lost.

Parent

We have a very bright child who was bored at the local Catholic school and a child with significant learning delays. Both children are THRIVING. The education is exceptionally child-centered–math, english, and science learnings have been remarkable. We have found this school to be nothing less than flexible, loving and supportive. Can’t recommend highly enough!

Chapter 26 – Tell me a Story!

You hear this from every child who can talk. You answer, “Once upon a time….” The fascination never leaves, no matter how old we are. Children listen with rapt attention from the age of six months.

Chapter 25 – The Sense of Beauty

Chapter 25 – The Sense of Beauty

It does not require deep logic to appreciate beauty. The mentality of children is well suited to it, and adults have no greater sense of beauty than they do. In fact, it is an area of life where true sharing is possible.

A longitudinal study of Milwaukee high school graduates showed that students who had attended Montessori preschool and elementary programs significantly outperformed a peer control group on math/science scores. “In essence,” the study found, “attending a Montessori program from the approximate ages of three to eleven predicts significantly higher mathematics and science standardized test scores in high school.”
