"As [our son] progressed through his third year of Montessori pre-school, the following school year loomed large. He was fashioning treasure maps with peninsulas and gulfs on them, compatible with kids both older and younger, and incredibly independent at home. His social, emotional, and intellectual progress during that third year was very exciting for us to see. The idea of a classroom with desks, worksheets, and a lesson plan created for the "masses" was unappealing.
