Our Programs
Programs and Students
The students at Northwest Montessori School form a love for learning, which begins in the primary classroom, and is only enhanced as they progress through elementary, and then middle school. All students at Northwest Montessori work on projects that appeal to a very deep need in their development, therefore they are fulfilling goals that are personally valuable to them. Children explore their environment through independent work and free choice, while being guided and challenged by the teacher in their classroom.
Northwest Montessori School follows Dr. Maria Montessori's guidelines for the creation of beautiful and prepared classroom environments that inspire the child's natural tendency to work. The prepared environment is a unique, thought-out classroom space that can change and will evolve over time. The prepared environment takes children into the real world and is designed for a particular kind of work that matches the natural interests of the child at a particular stage of life and growth. Some common elements of any Montessori prepared environment are to assist, nurture and protect development, and to ensure that children have the liberty to follow their natural course.
The Staff
We are proud to have a staff that represents the energy and diversity displayed at Northwest Montessori School. Our teachers, certified by the Association Montessori Internationale, are facilitators in the classroom, guiding children through all areas of the prepared environment. They present a commitment to the Montessori method by providing a challenging curriculum that is also supportive and nurturing. By interacting with children on an individual basis, teachers are supportive of their students, and are able to guide their interests.
All members of the Northwest Montessori staff—administrators, teachers and assistants—serve as role models for the children. Northwest Montessori School believes in modeling positive behaviors for children by being polite, warm and kind. |
