Northwest Montessori Community

Special Events and Fundraising
Northwest Montessori School has several school-wide events every year that are designed to strengthen our community and fundraise for the school. We kick off the school year with our Annual Hoopla fundraiser. It is a huge success and tons of fun for all of our families.

Throughout the year, there are several opportunities to support Northwest Montessori. In the past several years, we have sold Sally Foster wrapping paper to raise money used for staff development. The Elementary students work hard to earn extra money for their classrooms by selling wreaths during the holidays, candy for Valentine’s Day and beautiful flower baskets in the spring, as well as providing childcare during parent meetings.

Annual Giving is one of our most important fundraisers of the year. Annual Giving is necessary to maintain the high standards of the school and is a way to supplement the operational budget by means of a tax deductible, charitable gift, while keeping our tuition reasonable for all members of our community. 100% participation is expected. We ask each family to contribute a minimum of the equivalent to one month’s tuition. A payment plan can be arranged.

Many employers will contribute to Northwest Montessori’s Annual Giving by means of corporate matching. Please ask your employer if they would match your donation. An Annual Giving letter will be mailed home in the fall, along with a form for corporate matching.

The school year is wrapped up with our annual auction in the spring. Last year’s “Shooting For The Stars” Auction was our most successful to date, but we can only hope that it will get better. The theme for the 2007 Auction is “Down at the Copa...Copacabana,” celebrating our 11th Northwest Montessori Auction. Watch for upcoming meetings and opportunities to become involved with the planning of this fun event!

Parent Involvement
Northwest Montessori School strives to create a strong community between the students, staff and parents. To accomplish this, we ask that the parents stay active in the school and their child’s education through observation, conferencing, volunteering and giving. In addition, we encourage parents to study the Montessori philosophy and to learn how they can bring Montessori into the home.

Parent Observations and Conferences
Parents are encouraged to make at least two observations or visits to your child's class during the school year, but are welcome to observe at any time. Observation is an important teaching tool in a Montessori classroom and is the most beneficial way for parents to understand their child’s day. Scheduling a classroom observation prior to a conference with your child’s teacher will provide insight to the parents, therefore leading to a more meaningful conference. Our Parent/Teacher Conferences are designed for discussion regarding the time that each child spends in the classroom. Northwest Montessori School schedules two conference sessions per school year: in the fall and in the spring. To schedule an observation of your child’s classroom, please contact the main office. Conferences can be scheduled with individual teachers.

Open Houses and Parent Education Evenings
Northwest Montessori School hosts many parent education evenings and open houses throughout the year. These are times for parents to come into the classroom, learn about the Montessori curriculum and meet other members of the community. Please refer to the school calendar for more information about each of these events.

VOLUNTEER!

We love to utilize the many talents that lay within the Northwest Montessori Community! To become involved, please complete a Volunteer Form, available in the main office or contact your teacher regarding special projects. We welcome parent help with special projects, event planning, school beautification, material making, and so much more.
